A Level 1 inspection is the most basic type and is recommended for chimneys that are regularly maintained and used in the same way as before. During this inspection, a chimney professional checks the readily accessible parts of the chimney, flue, and appliance connection for structural soundness, obstructions, and creosote buildup. This level ensures that the chimney is safe for continued use but does not involve specialized tools or video inspection.

Level 2 Chimney Inspection

A Level 2 inspection is required when making changes to the system, such as installing a new appliance, converting fuel types, or after a chimney fire, earthquake, or severe weather event. It includes everything from a Level 1 inspection but adds a video scan of the chimney interior to identify hidden damage, cracks, or obstructions.

Level 3 Chimney Inspection

A Level 3 inspection is the most detailed and is necessary when serious hazards are suspected. This may require removing chimney parts, such as walls or the chimney crown, to fully assess structural integrity. This level is only conducted when a Level 1 or 2 inspection reveals significant issues that pose safety risks, such as severe damage or blockages that could lead to carbon monoxide leaks or chimney fires.
